Adding A Printer

All office printers are set to a static IP address and most of the time have to be added manually.

To add a printer go to control panel by typing "control" in the search bar without the parenthesis.

Open the Control Panel.

Select "Hardware and Sound" in Green. If you don't see this menu click the "view by" dropdown in the top right and select "Category".

Click Devices and Printers.

Click the Add a printer button at the top of the window.

Click "The printer that I want isn't listed"

Check the option that says "Add a printer using an IP address or hostname" and click next.

Here you will need to enter the printer's IP address. If you don't have this you can find it on the actual printer interface by opening the Utility section or similar area.

Select Device Information.

Take note of the IPv4 address.

Enter that IPv4 address in the "Hostname or IP address" section of the add printer window and click next.

Click the "Windows Update" button to update the drivers. This will take a little time. After the list updates find the Manufacturer and closest model you can. Most of the time you wont find the exact model but it similar drivers will work just fine.

After you select the driver click next and you can change the printer name. Then click next.

The next page will allow you to print a test page to be sure its working. If it is click "Finish".

There are two settings that need to be changed after the printer is added. On the Devices and Printers window that should still be open after you have added the printer, right click the printer and select "Printer Properties".

Click the "Preferences" button.

Change the 2-sided drop-down to 1-sided.

Then click the "Quality" tab at the top and change the "Auto Color" drop down to "Gray Scale".

This will default prints to black and white to save toner and money. You can overwrite this setting on individual prints when you need color.
