Purpose

This article provides a standardized process for uploading, organizing, and captioning photos, including alt text, to optimize our website for SEO and improve user experience.

Best Practices

1. Uploading Photos

File Size: Compress images to 1MB for balance between quality and loading speed. This is a good tool for bulk uploading: https://imageresizer.com/bulk-resize
Image Dimensions: 2000 pixels by 1333 pixels
Format: Use JPEG for photos and PNG for graphics/logos. Ensure high resolution (72 DPI).

2. Organizing Photos

Folders: Create specific folders for each property and subfolders for categories

  - Create a folder for each photoshoot and include date

Recommendations from our ILS
- Avoid using the property sign as the main photo. People are more interested in kitchens, living rooms, and/or amenities.
- Change out the main photos every so often, a lot of the time we get returning renters and they are more interested in looking at a listing they feel they haven’t seen before. Take into consideration the season when updating that media as well (Pools in the summer, fire places in the winter etc.)
- Use 20+ photos.
Lifestyle photos
- Use professional lifestyle photography in the Photos & Tours section. Avoid using stock photography. To incorporate more lifestyle imagery to your website, reach out to creative@horizonra.com.

3. Captioning Photos

Relevance: Ensure captions are relevant and provide context. Include keywords but avoid stuffing.
Descriptive and Engaging: Write descriptive, engaging captions highlighting unique features. Example in table.
In Entrata, use Title for the caption and Alternate Text for the alt text.

4. Adding Alt Text

Descriptive: Alt text should accurately describe the image content. Include keywords concisely.
- Example: Rooftop social lounge with KC skyline views at RM West in Kansas City, Missouri.
