Turkey Trot Race

• How to choose a 5K run location
  • Choose a location that is easily accessible with plenty of parking, water fountains, and restrooms.
  • Reserve if necessary.
  • Measure and map the 5K route using sites like:
    • Google Maps
    • On the Go
    • Plot A Route
    • Footpath
  • Preview course.
  • Share racecourse details to teammates, residents, and HR.
• Race day tips
  • Plan for a backup route and have alternative options.
  • Use flags and markers to indicate Turkey Trot route
  • Print an RSVP QR code flyer that residents and teammates can easily use.
• What if I work remotely?
  • We encourage you to run with a sister property in your area. If you are not located near a Horizon community, you can choose your own running location.
• Do we have to run?
  • Nope! Go at your own pace.
• What if I'm not able to participate in the 5K?
  • There are several ways to participate including fundraising, supporting teammates with signs, hosting a water station, and more.
• What should we wear?
  • Team spirit! Bring your rally towel and wear property swag or coordinate a festive outfit. The team that is best dressed will receive 8 hours of PTO.

• Do we need to RSVP?
  • Yes! As a Horizon teammate, you are required to RSVP via the link below so HR can accurately code your volunteer hours. For Horizon residents, we encourage them to RSVP for race day logistics and to measure the success of the event.

• Why did we choose to support Feed America?
  • Feeding America is the largest charity working to end hunger in the United States. They partner with food banks, food pantries, and local food programs to bring food to people facing hunger. Every $1 donated provides at least 10 meals to families in need. The Feeding America network reaches 200 food banks and 60,000 food pantries and meal programs. We chose Feeding America because their mission aligns with our goal to connect those in need of assistance with resources out there to help them, and provide an individual impact on the community at large. This is especially important this year as many of our neighbors deal with the effects of Hurricanes Helene and Milton. Your donations help Feeding America in their efforts to provide food, water, and personal care items to those affected.
• Who benefits from this fundraiser?
• All funds raised through Team Feed Corporate represent a gift to Feeding America's mission to feed America's hungry through a nationwide network of member food banks and engage our country in the fight to end hunger.
• Are there prizes for the largest fundraiser?
  • The top three fundraisers will receive Horizon-branded running shoes. Only current Horizon employees are eligible to win a prize.
  • The best dressed property will receive 8 hours of PTO to be used at your manager's discretion. PTO will only be awarded to participating teammates.

• What does Healthy with Horizon do?
  • Healthy with Horizon is all about supporting a healthy lifestyle. At Horizon we encourage people to make healthy choices for themselves and their families. We believe you are at your best with a good work/life balance. We invite you to participate in contests with your team and encourage healthy habits
• What does Horizon Cares do?
  • Horizon Cares is committed to helping our local communities by connecting those in need with existing resources, with a goal of going above and beyond reactive crisis measures to create preventative awareness.
• How many people are participating?
  • Over 400 Horizon teammates and residents!
• When did the Horizon Turkey Trot begin?
  • The Horizon Turkey Trot began in 2022.
• How can I join Horizon Cares or Healthy with Horizon?
  • You can participate in a leadership role or attend planning meetings. In November 2024, we’re holding open elections for leadership roles. Turn on notifications for the Horizon Initiatives channel in Teams for updates and more information.
