Dress Code Guidelines

Modified on Thu, 17 Apr at 9:44 AM

Property Appearance: You only have 3 seconds to make a first impression. The way you dress represents your community and the property as a whole. You want to look the part of the knowledgeable professional that you are.

The following guidelines must always be observed regardless of the formality of dress required in any situation:

  • Team members must be clean and well-groomed. Grooming preferences or dictates by religion, ethnicity etc. are not restricted but should always be well-presented.
  • All clothes should be clean and in good condition. Discernible rips, tears, or holes are not tolerated.
  • All clothes must be appropriate for the office. Clothes worn typically in workouts, outdoor activities, or recreation ventures are unacceptable in the workplace.
  • Clothes must project professionalism. Clothes that are too revealing or inappropriate for a specific situation are prohibited. Remember the “3B’s” that should never show: Bellies, Bottoms, Busts.
  • Accessories such as hats, scarves, etc. are allowed upon manager approval.
  • Team members should avoid clothes with stamps that might be perceived as offensive or inappropriate.

Appropriate Clothing (Monday – Thursday)

  • Button-up or polo-style dress shirts, blouses, sweaters, and jackets.
  • Casual pants, slacks, cargo shorts, skirts, and dresses in casual styles in an appropriate length, and casual sundresses (no spaghetti strings, see-through & remember the 3 B's).
  • Clothing must be clean and neatly pressed.

Fun Fridays & Saturdays: nice jeans, school spirit, spirit theme, or HRA spirit are appropriate.

Outside of the Office:

  • Walk-throughs:  While walking apartments during turnover, you can wear comfortable clothes and shoes. As much as possible, wear shirts with a property or Horizon logo. Shorts are ok as long are they are an appropriate length (no shorter than mid-thigh).
  • Campus Visits: While marketing on-campus, you must wear your property gear (T-shirts, caps, etc.) to stand out. You can also wear comfortable shoes since a lot of walking is involved.

When in doubt, err on the side of caution.

It is unacceptable to do your makeup and hair on-site, you should arrive on time ready, and work appropriate.

This SOP can be modified by Property Managers at their discretion. See Horizon's Employee Handbook for more information.
